My new film MANCANZA (Heaven, first part of a Trilogy) has been invited in the official selection of the Era New Horizons Film Festival (Wroclaw, Poland). The festival will run from 21 till 31/07/2011.
TUNNELVISION has been selected in the official competition of the festival too.
Era New Horizons International film festival is the biggest film festival in Poland and it is regarded as one of the most important film events in Central Europe. The festival presents uncompromising, innovative and original cinema from all over the world that explores new horizons in film language, expression and storytelling.

Mancanza is a film which takes big risks in exploring the cinema language. It is a never written film. A complex process. Maybe a never ending process.

Caos has screened ‘Tunnel Vision’ in its cinema from the 14 till the 18 January. For this occasion the italian film critic and intellectual Roberto Silvestri wrote, in the italian national newspaper ‘Il Manifesto’, some relevant words about the film (sorry, only in italian):
L’oblio, l’occhio del falco e la discarica
TUNNEL VISION DI STEFANO ODOARDI, CON SANNEKE BOS E SERGE PRICE, ITALIA 2010
I film indipendenti, fuori schema, condannati a non essere mai presi in considerazione per un prime time tv, bisogna andarseli a cercare, non si trovano nel cinema sotto casa, ma nei festival o nella sale più coraggiose. Così, da oggi, per ora solo in un cinema del circuito Microcinema che si trova all’interno del Caos-Museum di Terni (Centro Arti Opificio Siri, Via Campofregoso 98), è in visione uno dei migliori lungometraggi italiani e «italieni» dell’anno, finalmente in distribuzione mirata. Si intitola Tunnel vision, è il lingua olandese, con sottotitoli italiani, ed è diretto da un cineasta e artista italiano che vive e lavora da anni a Amsterdam e che Rotterdam ha invitato per la sua opera prima, l’acido road movie sbilenco Una ballata bianca.
Il film, un’altra opera di produzione olandese, racconta con le immagini almeno quanto con le parole (e non è facile trovare questa «doppia articolazione» estetica in un nostro film, anzi si diffida sempre delle opera a immagine «anarchica», vedi Io sono l’amore) la storia di Mira, una giovane e introversa ventenne che lavora in una discarica dei Paesi Bassi delle periferie estreme (ci sono anche in nord Europa, funzionano, e l’atmosfera sembra altrettanto sinistra) ed è addestratrice di falchi. Anche perché ha la responsabilità di tenere i gabbiani che svolazzano sull’immondizia sotto controllo. Ritrovato un giorno il corpo di un bambino appena nato nella discarica, la polizia indaga. I colleghi lavoratori (debosciati? scandalizzati?) della discarica hanno più di un sospetto che sia proprio di Mira quel bambino trovato senza occhi…. E si intuisce subito che è proprio lei l’infanticida, entrata in un delirio psicofisico incontrollabile, certo dopo aver subito una violenza sessuale sul lavoro. Così proprio come il falco, uccello predatore per cui ciò che non vede non esiste, Odoardi parla trasversalmente di oblio e di negazione della realtà. Certo, più o meno tutti preferiscono non vedere certe cose, o vedere solo ciò che si vuole, negando il resto. In fondo il cinema ha proprio il compito maieutico di far aprire gli occhi, è un design che trascina l’occhio proprio lì dove non vorrebbe.

Tunnel Vision had the italian premiere in the Sulmona Cinema Festival (December 6th 2010). The film was part of the ‘Concorso’ competition. This is a competition between Italian directors of first & second features. The film received the Best Director Award.

I have been invited to a Symposium in Amsterdam organized by the Van Gogh Museum, Eye Film Institute and Foam Museum. The symposium is organized in the occasion of the exhibition “Illusion of Reality” about Naturalism in art in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
The film TUNNEL VISION will be screened at 17.30 in the Eye Film Institute Netherlands (Vondelpark 3, Amsterdam).
Symposium: Life Like: Raw Truth

Because the naturalistic issues from the late 19th century such as social unrest or the future of youth are still current, Life Like is organising a discussion forum about naturalism in painting, photography, film and other media; about the fascination with the raw truth, and an ode to the working class hero. The symposium will include science, art (history) and current affairs. For an entire day and evening, the Van Gogh Museum, Foam and Eye Institute host tours, films and theatre, each within their own programme. The discussions and lectures will be documented and processed to make them instantly available to the global public.
Finally MANCANZA is back in the editing room. Together with Gianluca Stuard we are planning to finish the film quite soon.
I have finished the sound editing of Tunnel Vision. The film is now ready to premiere the end of September 2010 in The Nederland Film Festival.
I am actually working on the post-production of my new film Tunnel Vision. It is a new step after the positive period of the shooting. From this experience I realize even more how important and definitive is the process of the editing. I realize how important it is to be very precise in each step to give the possibility to the film to express itself.
